Parking has always been related to the growth of car traffic, nevertheless we see now that - due to more cycling trips and an increasing number of residents in town and city centers, the demand for bicycle parking facilities also increases. There is a clear need, for those who want to cycle, to keep the bike safe, secure and in a good quality.
Other measures and or horizontal activities, that are of interest for the cities but don’t fit into the above mentioned categories, are packed into this task. These are marketing and mobility management related measures such as communication, promoting alternatives to the car, social safety issues related to parking, target group segmentation and influencing social settings (such as measures arising from a community – e.g. arranging tradable parking rights – and herewith optimizing parking capacity of a neighborhood).
